ARTIST STATEMENT
I make dances that investigate what it means to be human—how we connect, respond, and interact with one another—and the dilemmas we impose upon ourselves on an individual and global scale. Through electric imagery and moments of confrontation, my art aims to reveal what we innately know to be true but has become obscured by societal pressure or our own self-perceived limitations. My work aims to bust through these constraints and prescribed methodologies to leave the artists and audience feeling raw and exposed, yet renewed in spirit.
Unique movement vocabulary, relationships, and spatial patterning are generated for each new work to invoke poignant images that resonate within the deep recesses of our collective psyche. The movement plays with extremes in physicality, nuance, and dynamics and explores the range of our human facility. I invite my collaborators to display themselves onstage – their effort, exhaustion, and experience – and their own motivation and internal meaning adds another dimension to the broader work. The infusion of this collective energy into my work yields a multi-layered experience that invites the viewer into our shared, created world and begs them to stay.
I am available for choreographic and/or teaching residencies as an individual artist or through my company, Summation Dance.
